# Kingdom-Centered Mission 2026

New City has long had a history of launching career missionaries to the field and promoting short-term mission teams to help our members experience first hand the harvest fields, and by God's grace, respond with greater commitment to giving, sending or going. One of New City's current strategic initiatives or Kingdom-centered themes that our pastors and elders feel called to is **"Kingdom Mission - growing in love of neighbor through evangelism, mercy and justice."** One way our church has been living this out this year is this through our response to the devastation in Western Jamaica caused by Hurricane Melissa last October.

In participation with First Presbyterian Church and Family Church in South Florida, here are a few of the ways over the past year that our church has been able to show love to our neighbor through evangelism, mercy and justice:

- pastors and a deacon visited the Black River area in the month following the hurricane
- raised funds to restore the roofs of two churches along with some homes in their communities
- sent chainsaws, generators and power tools to assist in rebuilding homes and lives
- hired some local skilled labor to work alongside mission team members
- met with and encouraged several pastors and church members
- brought the Word and enjoyed worship with Jamaican brothers and sisters in combined church services of four local churches
- helped with the cost of an emergency eye surgery
- through the generosity of one team member, provided a used vehicle for Pastor Sylvan James who has been relying on a bicycle for the past three years
- shared the good news of the gospel with those we have met along the way
- helped restore a small shop that supports the livelihood of a bi-vocational pastor
- helped with cement, blocks and steel for completing a stalled project on one of the pastors' home

Thank you again for your prayers and giving and mercy-in-action to make these things possible.

# October 10-17 Team

Plans are coming together for a team to serve in the Black River area October 10-17. The Lord has been laying it on the hearts of those he is calling to go on this trip (six so far with two others possible). Some team members are in need of financial support to help cover the cost of airfare, local transportation, accommodations and a portion raised for help with purchasing building materials. **If you can help with team members' expenses, you can give online here:** [Jamaica Disaster Relief.](https://newcitychattanooga.churchcenter.com/giving/to/disaster-relief)Or you can give by check with "Jamaica Disaster Relief" in the memo.

In consultation with the local pastors and church leaders, this **October team's plans** are to rebuild a house that was flattened by the hurricane (a humble 12'X12' plywood house), to provide zinc sheeting for partial repairs to two other houses, and Lord willing to assist Pastor Sylvan James with work on his house. (Local church leaders would also appreciate help for Pastor Neville Frazer and his family who have been in a temporary dwelling since the hurricane, but he is waiting on approval of building plans from local authorities.)

I'm encouraged by the words of the apostle Paul: "You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God. For to the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints but is also overflowhing in many thanksgivings to God." **2 Cor. 9:11-12.**

Bless you for praying and participating in Kingdom Mission for his glory and our good.

Pastor Billy McKillop
